A griddle, or plancha as it is called in France and Spain, comes down first to its energy source: electric for the table and the balcony, gas for the terrace and large gatherings, or a simple plate that sits on an induction hob. Then come the plate material (stainless steel, enamelled cast iron, steel), the size and the cleaning. I compared 13 planchas on sale, from the small Moulinex for 4 to the Forge Adour in enamelled cast iron, by way of Tefal, Lagrange, Krampouz, Campingaz, Le Marquier and Riviera & Bar. I read their manufacturer pages and recorded their Amazon France prices on 07/10/2026. Each one has its drawback spelled out.

Our griddle comparison for 2026
Our comparison answers the question "which griddle should I buy" profile by profile: small balcony, large table, tight budget, griddle made in France. You will find it on our which griddle to choose page, with a summary table and a review of each model. This page helps you pick the right type of griddle first.
Which type of griddle should you choose?
There are five main families: the electric griddle, the gas griddle, the built-in griddle, the plate that sits on a hob and the plancha and grill combo. The table at the end of this section sums them up.
The electric griddle
An electric griddle plugs into a socket: it is the only one you can put on the dining table as well as on a balcony where gas is not allowed. Tabletop models from Tefal, Moulinex and Lagrange heat a non-stick plate with 1,800 to 2,300 W, with a thermostat and a removable grease tray. Higher up the range, the Krampouz Samba electric has a stainless steel plate, two zones adjustable up to 300 °C and IPX4 protection for indoor and outdoor use. Its limit: less output than a gas griddle of the same size. Our electric griddle page covers this format in detail.
The gas griddle
A gas griddle runs on butane or propane, with a regulator and a gas hose. It goes higher in output: 6 kW for the Campingaz Blue Flame L according to the manufacturer, on a 60 x 40 cm plate for 10 to 12 people. It is the format of the specialist French brands such as Forge Adour, Le Marquier, Eno and Krampouz, with piezo ignition and two burners adjusted separately. Krampouz and Forge Adour intend theirs for outdoor use. For camping, there are also portable gas planchas running on a cartridge. Our gas griddle page compares the tabletop models, and the enamelled cast iron gas griddle page the ones with a cast iron plate.
The built-in griddle
A built-in griddle drops into a cut-out in the worktop, indoors or in an outdoor kitchen, and stays put. It needs a spot planned from the start, and often a professional for the connection. In return, the plate is always ready, at worktop height, without cluttering the terrace. Electric and gas models are gathered on our built-in griddle page.
The induction griddle
An induction griddle is a simple plate that sits on the hob: no cord, no gas bottle. The Crealys 513604, in non-stick cast aluminium, is sold as compatible with all hobs including induction. Bosch also sells a Teppan Yaki plate, but only for the FlexInduction zone of its own hobs. The drawback of these plates: their size depends on the cooking zone that heats them, so they suit 2 to 4 people more than a crowd.
The plancha and grill combo
A plancha and grill combo splits the surface between a flat plate for searing and a ribbed plate for grilling. The Riviera & Bar QPL800 makes it an electric unit of 49 x 39 cm, with two zones adjusted separately from 50 to 250 °C and dishwasher-safe plates. On the gas side, some gas barbecues add a plancha plate next to the grate. A combo makes sense if you hesitate between a barbecue and a griddle, less if you want a large flat plate.
Cart, lid and griddle accessories
An outdoor griddle sits on a side table or a cart, stays protected under a lid or a protective cover, and is worked with a spatula and tongs. Forge Adour and Krampouz sell carts made for their griddles, and Krampouz sells a cleaning kit with an angled spatula and stainless steel scourers. Our griddle cart page compares carts and outdoor units.
| Type of griddle | What use | Strength | Limit | Price recorded on 07/10/2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Tabletop electric | 2 to 12 people, indoors or balcony | A socket is enough | Less output | 36.99 to 139.00 euros |
| High-end electric | Terrace or balcony, about 6 | Stainless plate, 2 zones | Price | 349.99 to 359.10 euros |
| Tabletop gas | Terrace, 6 to 12 people | Output and large plate | Outdoors only | 119.99 to 499.99 euros |
| Induction plate | 2 to 4 people | No cord | Size of the hob zone | 49.73 euros |
| Plancha and grill combo | 8 to 10 people | Grill and plancha | Less flat plate | 349.99 euros |

How to choose a griddle
A griddle comes down to five criteria: the energy source, the plate material, the size, the output and the cleaning.
Gas or electric: it depends on your outdoor space
Gas heats harder and faster on large models, but needs a bottle and space outdoors. Electric plugs in anywhere, including on a flat's balcony where gas is not allowed, and it is the only option for cooking indoors. Our gas or electric griddle page compares the two in detail, including the choice between butane and propane.
The plate material: stainless steel, enamelled cast iron or steel
Stainless steel fears neither thermal shock nor scratches according to Krampouz, which guarantees its plate for 10 years, and it cleans with water and a stainless steel scourer. Enamelled cast iron has high thermal inertia, holding the heat, and its enamel is easy to clean: Le Marquier covers plate and burners for life, Forge Adour gives a 10-year warranty. Enamelled steel, as on the Campingaz Blue Flame L, costs less. Simogas also offers 6 mm rolled steel and hard chrome steel, a professional kitchen finish. Electric tabletop griddles most often have a non-stick plate in aluminium or cast aluminium. The match between the two best-selling materials is settled on our stainless steel or cast iron griddle page.
Plate size and number of people
The size of the plate sets the number of guests. In our selection, a 54 x 33 cm plate serves about 6 people (Krampouz Samba), and a 60 x 40 cm plate serves 6 to 12 depending on the manufacturer (Le Marquier, Campingaz). For a table of 10 to 12 on electric, the Tefal Giant Plancha is the one that claims the most guests. For two, a small electric griddle or an induction plate is enough.
Output and cooking zones
Output ranges from 1,800 W for the Moulinex Accessimo to 6,000 W for the Campingaz Blue Flame L, according to our checks. More than the figure, look at the number of zones: two burners or two separate thermostats let you sear meat on one side and keep vegetables warm on the other. That is the case on both Krampouz Samba models, the Riviera & Bar and the two-burner gas griddles. A thermostat marked in degrees (300 °C at Krampouz, 350 °C stated by H.Koenig) helps you find the right temperature every time.
Cleaning and the grease tray
Look at three things: a removable grease tray reachable from the front, a removable or dishwasher-safe plate, and the plate material. On the Moulinex and the Riviera & Bar, plate and tray go in the dishwasher; on the Krampouz, the 43 cl juice drawer slides out from the front. On a gas griddle, the plate stays in place: scrape it while still warm with the spatula, then follow the manufacturer's instructions for degreasing.
What budget for a griddle?
A griddle costs from 36.99 to 499.99 euros in our selection, according to our checks on 07/10/2026. The budget follows the energy source and the plate material more than the brand.
- Under 50 euros: tabletop electric griddles and an induction plate, from the Moulinex Accessimo (36.99 euros) to the Crealys 513604 (49.73 euros), with the Tefal Malaga XL (45.49 euros) in between.
- From 70 to 150 euros: large electric griddles and entry-level gas griddles, from the Tefal Giant Plancha (74.99 euros) to the Campingaz Blue Flame L (143.89 euros), with the Lagrange Equilibre (83.12 euros), the H.Koenig PLX1022 (119.99 euros) and the Tefal Maxi Plancha (139.00 euros).
- From 290 to 360 euros: stainless steel or enamelled cast iron plates made in France and the combo, from the Le Marquier Original Gaz 260 Duo (299.00 euros) to the two Krampouz Samba models (359.10 euros), with the Riviera & Bar QPL800 (349.99 euros).
- Around 500 euros: the Forge Adour Origin Gaz 60 (499.99 euros).
Prices move a lot from one season to the next, with promotions in spring and during the summer sales: a price recorded in October does not hold for June. The price shown on Amazon when you buy is the one that applies.

How we selected these models
I picked 13 griddles available on 07/10/2026, covering every energy source, every plate material and every table size. For each one, I recorded the price, availability and seller on the Amazon France page, then cross-checked output, cooking surface, plate and number of guests against the manufacturer's page; a value that could not be found or that conflicted is marked "n.c.". I left out the Eno enamelled cast iron gas griddle (third-party offer without a detailed page, uncertain shipping time), the Simogas EPM-75.11 (third-party seller, 4 units, reference missing from the Simogas website), the Campingaz Othello 1 CV (not found on the Campingaz website) and the Bosch Teppan Yaki plate (for Bosch FlexInduction hobs only). Livoo, Tristar and Weber griddles, common at retailers, are not part of this first selection. None of these griddles was tested hands-on: the score out of 5 is an editor's review based on the plate, output per guest, cleaning and price. The details are on our method page. For winter, our raclette grill selection, our fondue set selection and our waffle maker page follow the same method.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best type of griddle?
The best type of griddle depends on where you cook. For a terrace and a large table, a gas griddle in enamelled cast iron or stainless steel heats the hardest. For a balcony or indoors, an electric griddle is the only option. To cook for two without clutter, a plate on the induction hob is enough.
Which griddle should I buy?
There is no single best griddle, only a best griddle for each profile. In our selection, the Krampouz Samba electric has the highest score for a balcony or small terrace, the Tefal Malaga XL is the sensible pick for 6 to 8 on a budget, and the Le Marquier Original Gaz 260 Duo combines enamelled cast iron with French manufacturing. The recorded prices are in the budget section.
Can you use a griddle indoors?
Yes, an electric griddle can be used indoors: Tefal presents its Maxi Plancha for the table as well as outdoors, with a removable windshield. A gas griddle, no: Krampouz and Forge Adour intend theirs for outdoor use. A plate sitting on an induction hob also cooks indoors, under the extractor hood.
How do you light and use a griddle?
On a gas griddle, open the bottle, turn the knob to the ignition position and press the piezo igniter. Let the plate heat up empty for a few minutes before adding the food, sear on high heat, then turn one zone down to finish cooking. On an electric model, wait until the thermostat light goes off.
What can you cook on a griddle?
Almost anything that sears quickly: thinly sliced meat, duck breast, skewers, fish fillets, king prawns and shellfish, sliced vegetables (courgettes, peppers, mushrooms), eggs and even fruit for dessert. Cooking on a plate needs little fat, and a marinade made the day before adds flavour without burning as long as the plate is not too hot.
How do you clean a griddle?
Clean the plate while it is still warm: scrape the residue with the spatula towards the grease tray, then wipe. Krampouz simply recommends water and a stainless steel scourer on its stainless steel plates. On a tabletop electric griddle, remove the thermostat unit first: on the Moulinex, plate and tray then go in the dishwasher. Avoid harsh household cleaners on a cooking plate.
