Raclette grill: compare the models and their prices

By Charles Neveu Updated on 07/10/2026 Analysed Editor's review

A raclette grill comes down to how you want to melt the cheese: in small individual pans, under a heating element facing a half wheel, or on a combination grill that also cooks meat and vegetables. Then come the number of guests, the power and the cleaning. I compared 16 models sold on Amazon France, from a one-person raclette to a 10-pan family grill, reading each manufacturer's product page and recording prices on 07/10/2026. Every model has its main drawback spelled out.

Raclette night with friends: electric raclette grill in the middle of the table, melted cheese poured over potatoes, board of cured meats and gherkins

Our raclette grill comparison for 2026

The detailed comparison picks the best models for each profile: big table, tight budget, traditional raclette. You will find it on our best raclette grill page, with a summary table and a review of each model. This page helps you pick the right type of raclette grill before you compare specific products.

Which type of raclette grill should you choose?

There are four main families: the electric raclette with pans, the traditional cheese wheel melter, the combination grill with a stone or plate, and small formats for one or two people. The table at the end of this section sums them up.

The electric raclette grill with pans

This is the best-selling design: a heating element warms the small pans (called coupelles or poêlons in French) where each guest melts a slice of cheese, while the top plate keeps potatoes warm or grills cured meats. Models for 6 to 10 people run between 750 and 1,400 W. Its strength: everyone handles their own portion at their own pace. Its limit: each pan melts a small amount, and the grill needs enough power to keep up when all 8 pans go in at once.

The traditional half-wheel or quarter-wheel raclette

A traditional raclette holds a piece of the cheese wheel under a heating element: the surface melts and you scrape it straight onto the plate, the way it is done in Savoie or the Swiss Valais. Louis Tellier makes them for a quarter, a sixth or half a wheel, with height-adjustable heating elements; Boska's Raclette Demi swivels the half wheel back to the right distance from the heater. The taste and the show are there, but so is the price (141.49 to 159.99 euros on 07/10/2026), and you need to buy the cheese cut from the wheel. Our traditional raclette grill page compares these models.

The raclette and grill, stone or plancha combo

A combination model swaps the top plate for a natural cooking stone, a grill plate or a non-stick plancha, so meat and vegetables cook while the cheese melts. Tefal (Raclette & Pierrade, Inox & Design 3-in-1), Lagrange (Pierre Élégance, Element) and Severin make them for 8 to 10 people. They take up more room on the table, and a stone never goes in the dishwasher (Lagrange says so in its FAQ). The French brand's range is covered on our Tefal raclette grill page. If grilling is your main goal, an electric griddle (plancha) is a better fit.

A raclette grill for 2 or for one person

Small models of 320 to 400 W take 2 pans and fit in a cupboard: the Little Balance Duo weighs 860 g and its pans are dishwasher safe, and Tefal's Plug & Share connects to other units to go from 2 to 10 people according to its Amazon page. It is the right choice for dinner for two or a solo raclette, less so for hosting. For a couple who entertain now and then, a 4-person model such as the Princess with its natural stone (600 W) leaves more room. Our 2-person raclette grill page covers this format.

The large model for 8 people or more

Beyond 6 guests, aim for 8 or 10 pans and at least 1,050 W: that is the format of the Tefal RE310401, Store'inn and Raclette & Pierrade, the Severin RG 9645 and the Lagrange Pierre Élégance. Past 10 people, two grills side by side work better than one very long one. Models for big tables are gathered on our 8-person raclette grill page.

Wood, glass or stainless steel finishes

The finish mostly changes the cleaning. For the H.Koenig WOD8 wooden raclette grill, the maker lists no dishwasher-safe part: everything is washed by hand. Lagrange's glass raclette grill (Transparence) has glass trays with stainless steel rims, and its removable top glass is dishwasher safe according to Lagrange. The traditional melters from Louis Tellier and Boska are stainless steel. As for pans, every grill with pans in our selection comes with non-stick ones; stainless steel raclette pans are mostly sold separately to complete a set.

Type of grill Table size Strength Limit Price on 07/10/2026
Electric grill with pans 4 to 10 people Everyone handles their portion Power matters from 8 pans 24.99 to 69.99 euros
Traditional wheel melter 2 to 10 people Cheese scraped from the wheel Price, cheese bought by the wheel 141.49 to 159.99 euros
Grill, stone or plancha combo 8 to 10 people Full meal on the table Weight, stone washed by hand 36.99 to 132.29 euros
Small format 1 to 4 people Compact and light Not made for hosting 15.00 to 29.99 euros

How to choose a raclette machine

Choose a raclette machine on five criteria: number of guests, power, coating, cleaning and the accessories in the box.

Number of guests: 2, 4, 6 or 8 people

The number of pans sets the number of guests: count one pan per person. A 4-person raclette grill is enough for a couple with two children; beyond that, move up to 6 or 8. Brands sometimes advertise "up to 10 people": check that all 10 pans are actually in the box.

Power in watts

Raclette grill power ranges from 320 W for a 2-person model to 1,400 W for an 8-person grill with a stone, based on our records. A simple benchmark: roughly 125 to 175 W per pan on the family models in our selection. An adjustable thermostat (Severin RG 9645, H.Koenig WOD8, Princess up to 210 °C) lets you lower the heat once the stone is hot.

Coating of the pans and plate

Most pans are aluminium with a non-stick coating, so the cheese slides off with a wooden spatula. Tefal advertises a titanium-reinforced coating on its RE310401 and Store'inn, and Little Balance PFAS-free pans on its Duo. A natural stone (lava stone advertised by Tefal and Lagrange, granite at H.Koenig) cooks meat without added fat, and Lagrange uses cast aluminium pans on its Transparence.

Cleaning and storage

Look for three things: dishwasher-safe pans, a detachable cord, and storage for the pans under the grill. Tefal's Raclette & Pierrade ticks all three according to its Amazon page. A stone never goes in the dishwasher: let it cool and clean it by hand, with a cloth for the Princess stone according to its product page.

Raclette set and accessories

A complete raclette set includes the pans, a spatula or scraper per guest, and sometimes a board or a cheese knife. The Lagrange Pierre Élégance comes with 8 spatulas and a small cheese knife; the Little Balance Duo with two wooden boards and two wooden spatulas. On a traditional melter, the scraper pushes the melted cheese from the wheel onto the plate.

What budget for a raclette grill?

A raclette grill costs from 15 to 160 euros based on our Amazon France records of 07/10/2026. Budget follows the type of grill more than the brand.

  • Under 30 euros: small formats and entry-level models, from the Little Balance Duo (15.00 euros) to the Tefal Plug & Share (29.99 euros), including the 4-person Princess (23.74 euros) and the 6-person Tristar (24.99 euros).
  • 35 to 70 euros: family grills for 8 to 10 people, from the Severin RG 9645 (36.99 euros) to the Tefal Raclette & Pierrade (69.99 euros).
  • 80 to 135 euros: better-finished combos, some made in France, such as the Lagrange Element (104.49 euros) or the Lagrange Pierre Élégance (132.29 euros).
  • 140 to 160 euros: traditional wheel melters from Louis Tellier and Boska.

How we selected these models

I picked 16 raclette grills available on Amazon France on 07/10/2026, covering every type and table size. For each one, I recorded the price, availability and seller on the Amazon page, then cross-checked power, number of pans and functions against the manufacturer's page; a value that is missing or contradictory is marked "n.c." (not communicated). Tefal publishes no page for the five references sold on Amazon: for those, I only kept values on which the Amazon title, table and description agree. None of these grills has been tested hands-on: the score out of 5 is an editor's review based on power per guest, functions, cleaning and price. The details are on our method page. To round off a winter evening, our fondue set selection and our waffle maker comparison follow the same method.

Frequently asked questions

How much electricity does a raclette grill use?

A raclette grill uses at most its power multiplied by the time it runs: a 1,200 W model heating at full power for 2 hours uses no more than 2.4 kWh. A thermostat, when there is one, cuts the element on and off and lowers that figure. Multiply by your electricity rate per kWh to get the cost of the evening.

What wattage should a raclette grill have?

For 2 people, 320 to 400 W is enough. For 4 to 6 people, aim for 600 to 800 W, and for 8 to 10 people at least 1,050 W. Combination grills with a cooking stone need more, from 1,100 to 1,400 W in our selection, because the stone has to heat up as well as the pans.

What is the raclette pan called?

The small raclette pan is called a poêlon in French, or coupelle: it is the little pan with a handle in which each slice of cheese melts under the heating element. The wooden or plastic spatula that comes with it slides the cheese onto the potatoes without scratching the coating.

How do you clean a raclette grill and its pans?

Unplug the grill and let it cool. On most recent models (Tefal, Lagrange Transparence) the pans and non-stick plate are dishwasher safe; otherwise use hot water and a non-abrasive sponge. A natural stone never goes in the dishwasher: clean it by hand once cool, and wipe the heating base with a damp cloth.

What is the difference between a traditional wheel melter and a multi-function grill?

A traditional melter melts the surface of a piece of cheese wheel that you scrape onto the plate; it only does cheese. A multi-function grill with pans melts individual slices and adds a grill, stone or plancha for meat and vegetables. In our selection, traditional melters are the most expensive grills: their recorded prices are in the budget section above.

What else can you cook on a raclette grill?

A raclette grill doubles as a small table grill: the grill plate or stone cooks meat, prawns and vegetables, and the pans can bake individual tartiflettes. Some models, such as the Tefal RE310401, the Lagrange Element or the Tristar RA-2998, have a surface for mini pancakes at dessert time.
