A crepe maker comes down to the kind of crepes you want to serve: one large thin crepe at a time on a round plate, several mini crepes for a crepe party, or golden buckwheat galettes on a cast iron billig, the way they make them in Brittany. Then come power, plate size, coating and temperature control. I compared 12 crepe makers sold on Amazon France, from an electric model at 19.99 euros to the Krampouz billig at 260.10 euros, reading each manufacturer's product page and recording prices on 07/10/2026. Every model has its main drawback spelled out before its strengths.

Which type of crepe maker should you choose?
There are four main families of electric crepe makers: the large-plate model, the crepe party maker, the 2-in-1 and the cast iron billig. Add to that the gas crepe maker, meant for professionals, and the crepe pan. The table at the end of this section sums them up.
The large-plate electric crepe maker
This is the most common crepe maker at home: a round non-stick aluminium plate of 30 to 33 cm, heated by an element underneath, where you cook one crepe at a time. The Tristar BP-2637, the Little Balance Happy Crêpes and the Russell Hobbs Fiesta measure 30 cm; the H.Koenig KREP29 and KREP56 go up to 33 cm. They run at 1,000 to 1,300 W. The upside: full-size wheat crepes, cooked right on the table. The downside: one person cooks while everyone else waits their turn.
The crepe party maker and multi-crepe sets
A crepe party maker swaps the large plate for 6 to 8 cavities of 11.5 to 12 cm: everyone pours a little batter, flips their mini crepe with a small spatula and adds their own filling. The Tefal Crep'Party Colormania and the Tefal Crêpier Gourmet have 6 cavities, the Livoo Maxi crêpes party has 8 and the DOMO DO8709P has 6. This is the crepe party set for children's snacks, Candlemas and evenings with friends. The catch: no large crepe and no galette, and an 8-cavity model is long (64.5 cm for the Livoo).
The 2-in-1 crepe maker with a reversible plate or stencil
A 2-in-1 changes format without changing appliance. The H.Koenig KREP56 flips its plate: a 33 cm crepe on one side, 10 cm pancakes on the other. The Lagrange Créativ Duo lays a silicone stencil on its 28 cm plate to make 4 mini crepes of 13 cm, and the silicone covers the hot edges, a plus with children. Lagrange also makes the French-built Tradi'Duo, which swaps the whole plate (one large crepe or 7 small ones), but it could not be shipped quickly when we checked (see below).
The machined cast iron billig, the Breton crepe maker
The billig is the traditional Breton crepe maker: a thick machined cast iron plate with no coating, holding a steady heat so you can turn out buckwheat galettes and wheat crepes one after another. Krampouz, a Breton manufacturer, sells its Billig in 35 cm (2,500 W, 11 kg) and 40 cm (3,000 W, 16 kg) according to its manual; Casselin offers a 35 cm family model at 2,200 W. Cast iron must be seasoned before first use: several layers of oil baked onto the plate build a natural non-stick surface. You spread the batter with a rozell (the wooden rake) and flip it with a spanell (the spatula). It is the closest thing to a creperie, at the highest price.
Gas and professional crepe makers
A gas crepe maker heats its cast iron plate with a butane or propane burner: with no socket needed, it is used at markets, fairs and food trucks, outdoors. Krampouz sells a 40 cm model rated at 6,000 W. Professional electric crepe makers reach 3,000 W and more, often in 40 cm. For home use an electric model is enough, and the Krampouz Billig manual actually forbids outdoor use.
The crepe pan, the no-appliance option
A 26 to 28 cm crepe pan goes on the hob, gas, ceramic or induction depending on the model, and fits in a drawer. It costs less than an electric crepe maker, but whoever cooks stays in the kitchen. We cover crepe pans on a separate page, in cast iron, ceramic or induction-ready versions.
| Type of crepe maker | Who it suits | Strength | Limit | Price on 07/10/2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Large electric plate | Families, 2 to 6 people | 30 to 33 cm crepes | Only one cook | 19.99 to 39.99 euros |
| Crepe party maker | Children, evenings with friends | Everyone makes their own | Mini crepes only | 32.28 to 59.90 euros |
| 2-in-1 | Undecided buyers | Large or small crepes | Smaller large crepe | 59.99 to 78.00 euros |
| Cast iron billig | Galette lovers | Steady heat, creperie results | Price, weight, seasoning | 237.65 to 260.10 euros |

How to choose a crepe machine
A crepe machine comes down to five criteria: crepe size, power, plate, temperature control and the accessories in the box.
Plate diameter and number of crepes
For standard wheat crepes, aim for at least 30 cm; 33 to 35 cm for buckwheat galettes folded into a square. Mini crepe makers produce crepes of 10 to 13 cm: count one cavity per guest, 6 for a family, 8 for a group of friends.
Power in watts
Crepe maker power ranges from 1,000 W for a 30 cm plate to 2,500 W for a 35 cm billig, according to our records. The larger and thicker the plate, the more watts it needs to heat up and stay hot between crepes. Krampouz recommends cooking at around 200 to 230 °C: check that the appliance gets there (215 °C at most for the Tristar BP-2637 according to Tristar).
The plate: non-stick coating or seasoned cast iron
Most electric crepe makers have an aluminium plate with a non-stick coating: it wipes clean with a damp cloth but does not like metal utensils. Little Balance announces a PFAS-free coating on its Happy Crêpes, Tefal a Titanium Force coating on its Crêpier Gourmet. The machined cast iron of a billig has no coating: according to Krampouz, its seasoning can be removed and redone endlessly, which gives it a lifespan a non-stick coating does not have.
Thermostat and temperature light
An adjustable thermostat lets you lower the heat for soft crepes or raise it for crisp galettes. The Russell Hobbs Fiesta has 5 settings, the H.Koenig models go up to 230 °C and the billigs to 300 °C. The Tefal Crep'Party models have a Thermo-Spot indicator that shows when the plate is hot; the Livoo has an automatic thermostat, and the Lagrange Créativ just a light, with no adjustment.
Accessories: rozell, spatula and ladle
For a large crepe you need a rozell (a wooden spreader or rake) to spread the batter and a spatula to flip it: the Russell Hobbs Fiesta, the H.Koenig KREP56 and the Krampouz Billig come with both. On a crepe party maker, a measuring ladle and one small spatula per guest are enough: the Tefal Colormania includes 6 with its ladle and stores them under the appliance.
Tefal crepe makers: Crep'Party and Crêpier Gourmet
Tefal mainly sells cavity crepe makers built in Haute-Savoie, with a 15-year repairability commitment. The Crep'Party Colormania (49.13 euros on 07/10/2026) has 6 cavities, the Thermo-Spot indicator and 1,000 W according to the seller; its black and stainless steel version PY558813 was 69.99 euros the same day. The Crêpier Gourmet adds an adjustable thermostat and the Titanium Force coating for 59.90 euros. Tefal has no large-plate crepe maker in our selection: for a large crepe, its range goes through the crepe pan.

What budget for a crepe maker?
An electric crepe maker costs from 19.99 to 260.10 euros based on our Amazon France records of 07/10/2026. Budget follows the type of appliance more than the brand.
- Under 40 euros: cheap crepe party makers and entry-level large plates, from the Tristar BP-2637 (19.99 euros) to the H.Koenig KREP29 (39.99 euros), including the Little Balance Happy Crêpes (22.32 euros), the Livoo Maxi crêpes party (32.28 euros), the Russell Hobbs Fiesta (32.99 euros) and the DOMO DO8709P (34.99 euros).
- 45 to 80 euros: better-equipped models, from the Tefal Crep'Party Colormania (49.13 euros) to the Lagrange Créativ (78.00 euros), with the Tefal Crêpier Gourmet (59.90 euros) and the H.Koenig KREP56 (59.99 euros).
- 235 to 265 euros: the cast iron billigs from Casselin (237.65 euros) and Krampouz (260.10 euros).

How we selected these models
I picked 12 crepe makers available on Amazon France on 07/10/2026, covering every type of appliance and every budget. For each one, I recorded the price, availability and seller on the Amazon page, then cross-checked power, diameter, plate and temperature control against the manufacturer's page; a value that is missing or contradictory is marked "n.c." (not communicated). When the two disagree, the manufacturer wins: the Krampouz manual gives 11 kg for the 35 cm Billig, the seller page 13.75 kg. None of these crepe makers has been tested hands-on: the score out of 5 is an editor's review based on format, power, plate, accessories and price. The details are on our method page.
I left out the Lagrange Tradi'Duo, listed at 109.99 euros on 07/10/2026 but shipping in 1 to 2 months, as well as the 4-cavity Moulinex crepe maker and the 33 cm Krampouz family model, which had no available offer on Amazon that day. The 40 cm Krampouz gas crepe maker, sold by a third-party seller, targets professional outdoor use. For other evenings around the table, our raclette grill and fondue set selections follow the same method, and an electric griddle takes over for grilling meat and vegetables.
Frequently asked questions
What is the appliance for making crepes called?
The appliance for making crepes is called a crepe maker (crêpière in French). In Brittany, the cast iron electric crepe maker is called a billig, and the one used for buckwheat galettes is sometimes called a galettière. Small cavity appliances are sold as crepe party makers. The wooden rake that spreads the batter is a rozell, the spatula a spanell.
How do you make crepes on a billig?
Lightly oil the plate with sunflower oil, pour a ladle of batter onto the hot cast iron and spread it with the rozell in a circular motion. Krampouz recommends a plate at around 200 to 230 °C. Flip the crepe with the spatula once the edges turn golden, then wipe the plate between crepes to remove cooking residue.
How do you season a cast iron crepe maker?
Seasoning takes one to one and a half hours according to Krampouz, under an extractor hood. Heat the plate to 250 °C, spread a teaspoon of sunflower oil with the pad and let it dry until it stops smoking, four times, then five more coats of half a teaspoon. Finish with one pass of the pad without oil: the plate turns a light chestnut colour.
Which is the best crepe maker?
The best crepe maker depends on your crepes. For buckwheat galettes like in a creperie, a cast iron billig such as the Krampouz Billig, at the cost of a heavy and expensive appliance. For Sunday crepes, a large 30 to 33 cm electric plate with a thermostat. For an evening with children, a crepe party maker such as the Tefal Crep'Party.
What is the difference between an electric and a gas crepe maker?
An electric crepe maker plugs into a socket and sits on the kitchen table; you set the heat with a dial. A gas crepe maker heats with a burner connected to a butane or propane bottle: it is used outdoors, at markets or in food trucks, where there is no socket. At home, electric is simpler and safer.
What wattage should a crepe maker have?
For a 30 to 33 cm non-stick plate, 1,000 to 1,300 W is enough. A mini crepe maker runs at 1,000 to 1,500 W according to our records. A cast iron billig needs more, from 2,200 to 2,500 W in our selection, because the thick cast iron has to heat up and hold its temperature.
