Waffle maker: compare the electric models and their prices

By Charles Neveu Updated on 07/10/2026 Analysed Editor's review

A waffle maker is chosen first on the waffle you want: thick and deep-pocketed, crisp outside and soft inside, or thin like a wafer. Then come the mechanism (simple clamshell, rotating or flip), the power in watts, the plates and the cleaning. I compared 16 electric waffle makers on sale, from an 18.99-euro mini model to Lagrange's 4-waffle machine, reading their manufacturer pages and recording their Amazon France price on 07/10/2026. Each one has its drawback spelled out, before its strengths.

Our waffle maker comparison for 2026

The detailed comparison picks the best models by profile: family, small budget, thick waffles, multi-plate. You will find it in our waffle maker comparison, with a summary table and a review of each machine. This page helps you choose the right type of waffle iron first.

Which type of electric waffle maker should you choose?

There are five main families of electric waffle maker: the clamshell, the rotating or flip model, the multi-plate waffle and toastie maker, the wafer and cone maker, and the professional waffle iron. The table at the end of this section sums them up.

The classic clamshell waffle maker

This is the simplest design: two plates, a lid you close, a handle that locks. The batter cooks from below, then from above once the lid is shut. The DOMO DO9047W (1,400 W, stainless steel housing according to its listing) and the Severin WA 2130 (1,600 W) are two examples under 35 euros when we checked, making 2 waffles at a time. Its strength: price and size. Its limit: on entry-level models the plates are not always removable, which makes cleaning harder.

The rotating or flip waffle maker

A rotating waffle maker turns half a turn right after you pour the batter. Frifri explains that a classic model first heats the batter from below, while rotation spreads it over both plates from the start, so the edges and the centre brown evenly. ÉquipementPro considers this rotation essential for runny batters, the ones used for Brussels waffles. Lagrange calls its version a flip waffle maker: you pour the batter, then turn the whole machine over on its base. The brand uses this design on its Premium Gaufres, Super 2 and 4 Gaufres, Krups and Tefal on their rotating-handle models, and Little Balance on its Flip Gaufres at 47.92 euros on 07/10/2026.

The multi-plate waffle and toastie maker

A multi-plate machine swaps plates to go from waffles to toasted sandwiches, paninis or grilling. Tefal applies this idea to its Snack Collection (20 optional plate sets according to Tefal), Snack Time and UltraCompact; Lagrange to the Premium 3-in-1 and the Mini Maxi; Russell Hobbs to the Fiesta. It is the most versatile option, but the Tefal models run at 700 W, less than dedicated waffle irons. If the toastie matters more than the waffle, our toastie maker page compares these machines.

The wafer and ice cream cone maker

A wafer maker cooks a very thin batter on a round plate, which you then roll into an ice cream cone or leave flat as a tuile. ScrapCooking (18.5 cm plate) and Tristar WF-1170 (20 cm according to Tristar) include the tool to shape the cones. These machines do not make thick waffles. To get both, the wafer plates of the Lagrange Premium 3-in-1 cook 4 wafers of 100 x 77 mm at once.

The professional waffle iron

A professional waffle iron is built for back-to-back batches: cast iron plates, a thermostat from 50 to 300 °C on some models listed by ÉquipementPro, a 180° opening for Brussels waffles, and a double version with two thermostats to double the output. Krampouz offers them with Brussels, Liège or fruit-shaped grids. On Amazon France, its single 4 x 6 waffle iron was sold for 1,104.90 euros by a third-party seller on 07/10/2026: a professional budget. Our professional waffle maker page compares these models and the semi-professional ones for home use.

The large family model and the mini waffle maker

For a large family, a birthday party or Shrove Tuesday, the Lagrange 4 Gaufres cooks 4 waffles of 155 x 100 mm at once, with 1,700 W. At the other end, the Bestron mini waffle maker (550 W) makes waffles 10 cm across for children's snacks. Between the two, most waffle makers in our selection cook 2 waffles at a time.

Type of waffle maker Best for Strength Limit Price on 07/10/2026

How to choose a waffle machine

A waffle machine is chosen on five criteria: the waffle style, the power, the plates, the temperature control and the cleaning.

Waffle style and batter

The batter decides the waffle maker: a runny batter is poured with a ladle, a yeast dough is placed in balls. The Brussels waffle is rectangular, light and crisp, made from a runny batter: it needs deep plates (4 x 6 or 4 x 7 pockets) and, ideally, a rotating waffle maker. The Liège waffle is denser, made from a yeast dough with pearl sugar that caramelises: ÉquipementPro advises cooking between 170 and 190 °C so the sugar does not burn. Wafers, finally, need their own thin, wide plates.

Power in watts

The power of a waffle maker ranges from 550 W for a mini model to 1,700 W for a 4-waffle machine in our selection. Frifri points out that higher power lets the plates get back to temperature quickly when you pour in cold batter. A simple rule: aim for 1,000 W or more for a waffle maker meant for thick waffles; the 700 W Tefal multi-plate models are better suited to toasties and thin waffles.

Plates: cast aluminium, non-stick coating, removable

Cast aluminium plates hold heat better: Lagrange uses them on its Premium, Super 2, 4 Gaufres and Mini Maxi, with a non-stick coating except on the traditional Super 2. Non-stick plates release the waffle without tearing it and need little fat. Little Balance and Severin state a PFAS-free coating. Prefer removable plates: they can be washed separately and, on a multi-plate model, let you change recipes.

Adjustable thermostat and indicator lights

An adjustable thermostat adapts cooking to the batter and the browning you want: Krups offers 7 levels, and Little Balance goes up to 220 °C according to the seller. The Lagrange Premium separates browning (a dial) from texture, soft or crisp, and beeps when the waffle is done. A heating light, found on every model, tells you when to pour the batter. The Lagrange Super 2 and 4 Gaufres list no temperature setting.

Cleaning and storage

Check three things: removable plates, dishwasher-safe parts and upright storage. The Tefal models (Snack Collection, Snack Time, UltraCompact, King Size), the Krups and the Russell Hobbs state dishwasher-safe plates. Lagrange recommends a soft sponge on its cooled plates instead. To clean a waffle maker with fixed plates, like the Little Balance, let it cool down, then wipe the plates with a damp cloth, and never put the machine in water.

Tefal, Lagrange or Seb: the waffle maker brands

Tefal came up most often in the waffle maker searches I ran on Amazon France, with its Snack ranges, while Lagrange makes most of its waffle makers near Lyon and still sells the Super 2, inspired by its 1956 model. A Tefal waffle maker is mostly a waffle and toastie maker: most models take waffle and toastie plates, at 700 W. The rotating King Size is the exception. A search for "Seb waffle maker" or "Moulinex waffle maker" on Amazon France on 07/10/2026 returned no waffle maker from either brand: Seb, Moulinex, Tefal and Krups belong to the same group, and Tefal and Krups are the ones on the shelf. Frifri, another long-standing maker, was only offered by third-party sellers when we checked.

What budget for a waffle maker?

An electric waffle maker costs from 18.99 to 256.49 euros based on our Amazon France records of 07/10/2026. Budget follows the mechanism and the number of plate sets more than the brand.

  • Under 50 euros: simple clamshells and small multi-plate models, from the Bestron mini (18.99 euros) to the rotating Little Balance (47.92 euros), including the DOMO (28.99 euros), the Severin (34.99 euros), the Russell Hobbs Fiesta (43.99 euros) and the Tefal UltraCompact (44.99 euros).
  • 60 to 100 euros: the Tefal Snack Time (64.90 euros) and Snack Collection (99.99 euros), the Lagrange Mini Maxi (80.74 euros), the rotating Tefal King Size (97.99 euros) and the Lagrange Super 2 (99.99 euros).
  • 100 to 160 euros: long-lasting waffle makers, the rotating Krups (119.99 euros), the Lagrange Premium (129.00 euros) and the Premium 3-in-1 (154.99 euros).
  • Over 250 euros: the Lagrange 4 Gaufres (256.49 euros), for large families.

How we selected these models

I picked 16 waffle makers available on Amazon France on 07/10/2026 in the small kitchen appliance section, covering every type and budget. For each one, I recorded the price, availability and seller on the Amazon page, then cross-checked power, plates and mechanism against the manufacturer's page where one exists (Lagrange, Tefal, Little Balance); a value that is missing or contradictory is marked "n.c." (not communicated). For Krups, Severin, DOMO, Russell Hobbs, Bestron, ScrapCooking and Tefal's King Size, I only kept values on which the Amazon title, table and description agree. I left out Frifri (third-party sellers only, from 107.76 to 160.93 euros depending on the model, and a Héritage model with no price shown) and the professional Krampouz, beyond a home budget. None of these machines has been tested hands-on: the score out of 5 is an editor's review based on mechanism, power, plates, cleaning and price. The details are on our method page. For other winter evenings, our raclette grill selection and our fondue set comparison follow the same method, as will our electric griddle page.

Frequently asked questions

What is the best waffle maker?

There is no single best waffle maker, only a best one for each use. For thick waffles and a machine that lasts, a French-made flip waffle maker such as the Lagrange Premium Gaufres. For waffles, sandwiches and paninis on a small budget, the Tefal UltraCompact. For a large family, the Lagrange 4 Gaufres. Their recorded prices are in the budget section above.

What wattage should a waffle maker have?

For thick Brussels or Liège waffles, aim for at least 1,000 W: the thick-waffle models in our selection range from 1,000 to 1,700 W. A 700 W multi-plate machine is enough for toasties, paninis or thin waffles. Below that, like the 550 W mini waffle maker, you are limited to small waffles for snacks.

What are the advantages of a rotating waffle maker?

A rotating waffle maker spreads the batter over both plates as soon as you turn it: the waffle is better formed, and Frifri promises waffles that are crisp at the edges and soft in the centre. It suits runny Brussels-style batters best. On the downside, it takes more space and costs more: in our selection, the cheapest rotating model costs more than the two 1,400 W and 1,600 W clamshell models.

What is the difference between a professional and a home waffle maker?

A professional waffle iron runs batch after batch all day: cast iron plates, a precise thermostat, a 180° opening, sometimes two cooking stations. It is priced like catering equipment, as the Krampouz mentioned above shows. A home waffle maker cooks 2 to 4 waffles at a time for a few snacks a month.

Can you make toasted sandwiches with a waffle maker?

Yes, if the machine takes toastie plates. That is how the Tefal Snack Time and Snack Collection, the Lagrange Mini Maxi, the Premium 3-in-1 and the Russell Hobbs Fiesta work: you swap plates in a few seconds. A waffle maker with fixed plates, like the Little Balance Flip, only makes waffles.

How do you clean a waffle maker?

Unplug it and let it cool down. Take out the removable plates and put them in the dishwasher if the manufacturer allows it (Tefal does), otherwise use a soft sponge, as Lagrange recommends. On fixed plates, wipe with a damp cloth. Never use an abrasive sponge on a non-stick coating and never put the body of the machine in water.
