For most households, the best electric griddle is the Little Balance Biscarosse 50-35: a 50 x 35 cm enamelled cast iron plate, a thermostat up to 300 °C and an IPX4 stainless steel body for the patio, made in France, for 250.00 euros on 25 October 2026. On a tight budget, the Tefal Malaga XL costs 59.99 euros on 25 October 2026, but its plate is only 25.5 cm deep.

The best electric griddle heats a smooth cooking plate evenly across its whole surface, with no gas and no flame: you plug it in on the patio, the balcony or the kitchen worktop, and a thermostat sets the temperature. Wattage, plate material (stainless steel, enamelled cast iron or non-stick coating), the number of heating zones and the grease tray make the difference when you grill meat, fish and vegetables. For this comparison of electric griddles, often sold in France as planchas, I checked 17 listings and kept 7, from 59.99 to 549.00 euros on 25 October 2026.
This comparison is based on reading the product listings, not on hands-on testing: none of these griddles was used by our team, hence the "Editor's review" badge. I checked 17 listings on Amazon on 25 October 2026, from 1,800 to 6,300 W, then kept the 7 electric griddles that cover each profile with an active offer, a smooth plate and a power supply suited to a French socket.
For each one, I noted the price, availability and seller, then cross-checked wattage, cooking area, plate material, maximum temperature and outdoor use against the manufacturer's page where it could be read: Little Balance, Le Marquier and Krampouz on their own sites. When the retail listing and the manufacturer disagree, the manufacturer wins. For Tefal, Hendi, Planchaelec and Severin, the data comes from their retail listings. A value we could not find is marked "n/a". We do not use customer reviews or other sites' rankings.
| Criterion | What we looked at | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Power | Stated watts and watts per cm² of plate | Heat-up time and searing depend on it |
| Plate | Stainless steel, enamelled cast iron, steel or coating | It sets the cleaning routine and which spatula you can use |
| Heating zones | One or two, with or without separate thermostats | Sear on one side, keep warm on the other |
| Temperature | Published maximum in °C | 300 °C to sear, less for coated models |
| Outdoor use | IPX4 rating or explicit mention | A patio exposes the griddle to splashes |
Each model's score out of 5 is an editorial opinion based on these criteria and on price. Our full approach is described on the our method page.
Each model is presented with its profile, its drawback first, then what sets it apart.
Who it is for: a household of 6 to 10 that wants an enamelled cast iron electric griddle, stored in the kitchen in winter and taken out to the patio in summer.
What nobody tells you: it has only one heating zone and one thermostat. You cannot sear prawns on one side while keeping vegetables warm on the other, as you can on a two-zone model. Its power is 2,150 W according to Little Balance, below the 2,400 W of the NEO E530 or the Hendi.
What I liked: its 50 x 35 cm cooking plate is made of enamelled cast iron and is removable: it sits on the body and lifts off for cleaning. The thermostat goes up to 300 °C, the coiled heating element covers the whole cooking zone to spread the heat, and heat-up is stated at under 15 minutes. The body is all stainless steel and IPX4 rated, so it is protected from splashes outdoors. Made in France according to the brand, it was sold and shipped by Amazon on the day we checked.
Who it is for: large groups of 10 to 12 who want plenty of cooking area without spending more than 150 euros.
What nobody tells you: its thermostat has 5 positions with no temperature in degrees, and the listing gives no maximum. The plate has a non-stick coating: a stainless steel spatula or a scraper would damage it, so you need wooden or silicone utensils. The exact plate dimensions are not given, only the area.
What I liked: 1,150 cm² of cooking area for 2,300 W is the highest power density in the selection, about 2 W per cm². The coating lets you cook without added fat and makes cleaning easier. Tefal says it can be used indoors and outdoors, with a removable windshield that limits splatter. It was sold and shipped by Amazon for 139.00 euros on 25 October 2026.
Who it is for: a tabletop griddle for 6 to 8, for under 60 euros, for indoor meals.
What nobody tells you: its plate is 51 cm long but only 25.5 cm deep: you line up skewers in one row, not three. Like the Maxi Plancha, it has a non-stick coating, and its listing gives neither a maximum temperature nor outdoor use.
What I liked: 2,000 W for 1,300 cm² of cooking area, a multi-position adjustable thermostat for meat, fish, eggs, vegetables or fruit, and no need for fat. The listing states a 2-year warranty and 15 years of repairability. On the day we checked, it cost 59.99 euros, sold and shipped by Amazon.
Who it is for: large families and meals with friends, from 6 to 12 people, who want a semi-professional two-zone stainless steel electric griddle.
What nobody tells you: at 475.00 euros on 25 October 2026, it costs almost twice as much as the Biscarosse, and stock was limited on the day we checked. With 3,000 W according to Little Balance, do not plug it into the same socket as another large appliance. Bare stainless steel has no coating: lightly oil the plate before searing.
What I liked: a one-piece stainless steel plate measuring 59 x 40 cm and 4 mm thick, the largest in the selection, which the brand says is tough enough to cut on with a knife. Two independent heating zones, each with its own element and thermostat up to 300 °C: meat on one side, vegetables on the other. The IPX4 rating allows patio use, grease runs into a stainless steel jug that goes in the dishwasher, and the griddle is made in France. According to the manufacturer, deglazing the hot plate with water is enough to clean it.
Who it is for: anyone looking for the best 2,400 W stainless steel electric griddle, with a lid to finish dishes covered.
What nobody tells you: at 549.00 euros, it is the most expensive of the seven, and the manufacturer's site could not be read: its specifications come from its retail listing alone. Its plate is 3 mm thick, against 4 mm for the cheaper Little Balance Amplitude. The listing mentions "French know-how" without saying where the griddle is made.
What I liked: 2,400 W split over two heating zones, each with a thermostat from 50 to 300 °C, for a 52 x 40 cm cooking area and up to 8 people. It comes with a lid, a scraper spatula and tongs, and its juice tray is removable. It was sold and shipped by Planchaelec on the day we checked.
Who it is for: heavy use, in a well-equipped kitchen or small catering business, with a thick plate that holds its heat between batches.
What nobody tells you: this is professional equipment designed for indoor use: the listing mentions no outdoor use and no IPX4 rating. It has only one heating zone, and stock was limited on the day we checked. The plate is steel, not stainless steel: only the frame is stainless.
What I liked: an 8 mm steel plate, twice as thick as the stainless steel plates in the selection, for good heat retention. The thermostat adjusts continuously up to 300 °C over 51.8 x 33 cm, for 2,400 W on 230 V. A removable grease drawer and splash guards at the back and sides keep the worktop clean, and overheating protection cuts the power.
Who it is for: anyone who wants two separately adjustable heating zones without paying for a stainless steel griddle.
What nobody tells you: the thermostat stops at 240 °C, 60 °C less than the stainless steel and cast iron models: searing a thick piece of beef will take longer. The ceramic coating also needs utensils that will not scratch it. Stock was limited on the day we checked.
What I liked: two cooking surfaces totalling 1,300 cm² (50 x 30 cm), each with its own 5-level thermostat and an LED ring that shows the temperature. The ceramic coating is PFAS-free. The plate lifts off to go under the tap, the grease tray empties in one move, and a two-part windshield supports indoor and outdoor use. It weighs 4.8 kg, for 2,200 W.

Four questions are enough to choose an electric griddle: what wattage, which plate, one or two zones, and indoors or out. For an overview of the range, see our electric griddle page.
Allow at least 2,000 W for a 50 cm plate, and 2,400 W or more above 2,000 cm² of cooking area. Wattage alone does not tell the whole story: divided by the area, it shows whether the plate will heat up quickly and hold its heat when you add cold food.
| Model | Power | Cooking area | Watts per cm² |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tefal Maxi Plancha | 2,300 W | 1,150 cm² | 2.0 |
| Severin Suave | 2,200 W | 1,500 cm² | 1.5 |
| Tefal Malaga XL | 2,000 W | 1,300 cm² | 1.5 |
| Hendi smooth plate | 2,400 W | 1,709 cm² | 1.4 |
| Little Balance Amplitude | 3,000 W | 2,360 cm² | 1.3 |
| Little Balance Biscarosse | 2,150 W | 1,750 cm² | 1.2 |
| Planchaelec NEO E530 | 2,400 W | 2,080 cm² | 1.2 |
Our calculation from the published dimensions (for the Severin, 50 x 30 cm; the listing also states 1,300 cm²). A thick steel or stainless steel plate partly makes up for a lower density because it stores heat. A standard 16 A household socket on 230 V handles up to 3,680 W: every griddle we kept stays below that.
Stainless steel, as on the Amplitude or the NEO E530, does not mind a metal spatula or scraper, and cleans by deglazing with water on the still-hot plate. The enamelled cast iron of the Biscarosse holds heat and does not stick, but the enamel must be protected from knocks. Non-stick and ceramic coatings (Tefal, Severin) let you cook without fat, at the cost of wooden or silicone utensils and a shorter lifespan.
Two zones, each with its own element and thermostat, let you sear meat at 300 °C on one side and grill vegetables more gently on the other. One zone is enough for even cooking across the whole plate if you cook one food at a time.
For the best outdoor electric griddle, look for the IPX4 rating, which protects the appliance from water splashes: the Biscarosse and the Amplitude have it. Plug it into a protected outdoor socket, cover it once it has cooled and bring it inside for the winter. On a shared-building balcony, an electric griddle avoids a gas bottle, which building rules often forbid.

The price shown on Amazon when you buy is the one that applies.
No brand leads every range. Little Balance, Krampouz and Le Marquier make stainless steel or enamelled cast iron griddles in France, from 250 to almost 500 euros. Tefal and Severin cover the entry level with coated plates. Hendi targets professional kitchens. Choose the plate and the wattage first, then the brand.
The Tefal Maxi Plancha, at 139.00 euros on 25 October 2026, offers 1,150 cm² of cooking area and 2,300 W. For an enamelled cast iron plate that suits the patio, the Little Balance Biscarosse 50-35 at 250.00 euros the same day is the best compromise in the selection.
An electric griddle plugs in anywhere, including on a balcony where gas is banned, and the thermostat sets the temperature precisely. Gas gets hotter and faster, with no cable. For regular use in town or indoors, electric is simpler.
Yes. An electric griddle produces no flame and no combustion gas, and most sit on the worktop or table. Cooking without any smoke is impossible: grease and cooking juices that sizzle give off a little. Place it near an extractor hood or an open window.
With the plate still warm and the appliance unplugged, pour on a little water to deglaze, scrape towards the grease tray with a spatula, then wipe. On stainless steel, Little Balance recommends water and white vinegar. On a non-stick or ceramic coating, use a soft sponge, never a metal scraper.
