An electric deep fryer is chosen first on how many fries you want out of one batch, then on how you deal with the oil: filtering it, draining it, keeping it clean for longer thanks to a cool zone. Power, thermostat and cleaning come next. I compared 15 oil fryers on sale, from a small classic 1.8-litre model to a 6-litre twin tank, from SEB, Tefal, Moulinex, De'Longhi, Princess, Severin and Tristar. I read their manufacturer pages and recorded their prices on 07/10/2026. Each one has its drawback spelled out.

Our 2026 electric deep fryer comparison
The detailed comparison will pick the best models by profile: large family, small budget, oil filtering. It will be published on our best deep fryer with oil page, with a summary table and a review of each appliance. This page helps you pick the right type of fryer before comparing models.
Air fryer or deep fryer with oil: which one?
A deep fryer plunges food into an oil bath heated to as much as 190 °C by an immersed element: cooking is quick and fries taste like real frying. The trade-off is that you have to buy, filter, store and replace 2 to 6 litres of oil, and the smell stays in the kitchen if the appliance has no filter. An air fryer cooks with circulating hot air and a spoonful of fat or none at all, and it can also roast or grill. If that is what you are after, our hot air fryer page compares the models. This page only covers fryers that use oil.
Which type of electric deep fryer should you choose?
There are five families of electric oil fryers: the small classic fryer, the family fryer with a removable bowl, the semi-professional stainless model, the self-filtering fryer and the large-capacity fryer. The table at the end of this section sums them up.
The small classic deep fryer, for 1 to 4 people
A small classic fryer holds 1.8 to 2.4 litres of oil and fries about 1 to 1.5 kg of food. That is the format of the Moulinex Fry Uno (1.8 L, 1,470 W), the Simply One and Filtra One (2.1 L, 1,900 W), the Moulinex Filtra Vision and the De'Longhi FS6067 (2.4 L, 1,800 W). A lid with a window, cool-touch walls and a folding handle are common. The catch: on several of these models the bowl is not removable or not dishwasher-safe (Fry Uno, Filtra Vision, Simply One according to their makers). For a small fryer, check this before the price.
The traditional family fryer with a removable bowl
A traditional family fryer goes up to 3 litres of oil, with a bowl you lift out to empty and wash. The Moulinex Easy Pro (3 L, 1.2 kg, 2,200 W) has a stainless steel bowl, an immersed element and a cool zone; the Severin FR 2431 and Tristar FR-9326 (3 L, 2,000 W) are aimed at small budgets. Watch the real capacity per batch: Severin states about 400 g on the FR 2431. Our upcoming budget electric deep fryer page will gather the models in this range.
The semi-professional stainless steel fryer
A semi-professional fryer borrows from the chip shop: a 4 to 5-litre tank, stainless steel casing, immersed element, thermostat up to 190 °C and a cool zone. The Tefal Filtra Pro (4 L, 2,400 W) adds a digital timer and a sieve that filters the oil; the Princess 182642 (4 L, 2,000 W) has a removable enamelled bowl and the Princess 185000 (5 L, 3,270 W) three baskets. Their 2,000 to 3,270 W bring the oil back up to temperature quickly, but they use a lot of oil for what they fry: 800 g to 1 kg for 4 litres according to Princess and Tefal.
The self-filtering or self-draining fryer
A self-filtering fryer drains the oil with a turn of a dial, filters it and stores it in a closed box, with no drain tap to handle. That is the Oleoclean principle from Tefal and SEB: the 2-litre Tefal Oleoclean (1,500 W) is the one in stock at our check, while the 3.5-litre versions showed no price on Amazon on 07/10/2026. The Filtra models from the same group filter by hand, with a sieve under the basket. It is the easiest fryer to clean, but the only one in stock at our check holds just 2 litres.
The large-capacity and twin-tank fryer
A large-capacity fryer can fry 2 kg of fries in one batch (Moulinex Mega XXL) or cook two foods at once (Princess 183028, two 3 L tanks with separate thermostats, 3,600 W on a single socket). It suits 6 to 8 people, doughnuts for dessert or a spread of spring rolls and fried chicken. Plan for the worktop space and the oil: 3 to 6 litres every time you replace it.
| Type of fryer | For how many | Strength | Limit | Price checked on 07/10/2026 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Classic, small format | 1 to 4 people | Small, easy to store | Bowl often fixed or hand-washed | €49.99 to €81.97 |
| Family, removable bowl | 2 to 6 people | Bowl that empties and washes | Sometimes a small batch | €29.99 to €64.99 |
| Semi-professional stainless | 4 to 7 people | Fast heating, cool zone | A lot of oil | €53.96 to €79.99 |
| Self-filtering | A couple, at our check | Oil drained and stored on its own | Few models in stock | €79.99 |
| Large capacity, twin tank | 6 to 8 people | 2 kg or two batches at once | Bulk, 3 to 6 L of oil | €79.99 to €99.99 |

How to choose an oil deep fryer
An oil fryer is chosen on five criteria: capacity, power and thermostat, cool zone, oil handling and cleaning, then smells and safety.
Oil capacity and fries capacity
Look at the food capacity more than the litres of oil. Manufacturers give both, and the ratio varies a lot: the Moulinex Super Uno fries 1.5 kg with 2.2 litres, the Princess 182642 800 g with 4 litres. For 2 people, 800 g is enough; for 4, aim for 1 to 1.2 kg; for 6 or more, 1.5 to 2 kg or a twin tank. A large fryer saves you from frying in rounds while the first fries go cold.
Power and thermostat
Power ranges from 1,470 W (Moulinex Fry Uno) to 3,600 W (Princess twin tank) in our selection. The higher it is for a given volume, the faster the oil recovers when you drop in cold potatoes. Most of the models we kept have an adjustable thermostat: 150 to 190 °C on the Filtra, Uno and Easy Pro models that state it, 130 to 190 °C at Princess and Tristar. A timer (Tefal Filtra Pro, Moulinex Super Uno) helps you not to forget the batch.
Cool zone and cool-touch walls
The cool zone is an area under the element where the oil stays less hot: crumbs fall into it without burning, which keeps the oil clean for longer and limits smells, as Princess and Tristar explain. Cool-touch walls are something else: an outer casing that stays warm rather than hot to the touch (Simply One, De'Longhi FS6067, Moulinex Fry Uno). That is a safety feature, not an oil-quality one.
Oil handling and cleaning
There are three systems: the removable bowl you empty by hand, the filtering sieve (Filtra) and automatic draining into a box (Oleoclean). Then check what goes in the dishwasher: everything but the heating unit on the Tefal Filtra Pro and Moulinex Easy Pro, only the lid and basket on the Simply One, the basket alone on the Fry Uno. A stainless fryer with a removable enamelled bowl (Princess, Tristar) is easy to clean, while a fixed bowl means emptying the whole appliance.
Smells, window and safety
An odour filter in the lid (charcoal on the Moulinex Super Uno and Mega XXL, metal at Tefal) reduces the frying smell without removing it. A window lets you follow the colour of the food without opening. On safety, look for a lid that stays closed during cooking, overheating protection (Princess 185000, Tristar) and a heating cut-out when the element is removed (Severin FR 2431).
What budget for an electric oil fryer?
An electric oil fryer costs between €29.99 and €99.99 in our selection, based on our checks on 07/10/2026. The budget follows capacity and oil handling more than the brand.
- Under €40: the 3-litre family fryers from Tristar (€29.99) and Severin (€37.99).
- €45 to €65: the small Simply One, Fry Uno and Filtra Vision (€49.99 to €59.99), the 4 L Princess (€53.96), the Moulinex Easy Pro and the 5 L Princess (€64.99).
- €65 to €85: the Tefal Filtra One (€67.99), the Filtra Pro, the 2 L Oleoclean and the Princess twin tank (€79.99), the De'Longhi FS6067 (€80.60) and the Moulinex Super Uno (€81.97).
- Around €100: the Moulinex Mega XXL and its 2 kg capacity (€99.99).

Deep fryer brands: SEB, Tefal, Moulinex, De'Longhi, Princess
Nine of the 15 models in our selection come from Groupe SEB, under three brands: SEB and Tefal for the Filtra and Oleoclean ranges, Moulinex for the Uno, Easy Pro and Mega XXL. Their Amazon listings state a 15-year repairability commitment. De'Longhi sells its Cool Zone and Traditional fryers, while Princess and Tristar cover the entry level and the twin tank. Krups and Russell Hobbs had no oil fryer on sale on Amazon France on 07/10/2026, only filters or air fryers.
How we selected these models
I picked 15 oil fryers available on 07/10/2026, covering every type and household size. For each one, I recorded the price, availability and seller on the Amazon listing, then cross-checked oil capacity, maximum load, power and oil handling against the manufacturer's page; any value that was missing or contradictory is marked "n.c." (not communicated). None of these fryers has been tested hands-on: the score out of 5 is an editor's review based on capacity, oil handling, upkeep and price. The details are on our methodology page.
I left out the 3.5-litre Tefal Oleoclean, the SEB Oleoclean Pro and the De'Longhi F44532CZ, which showed no price on the day of the check, the De'Longhi F32110CZ, with unknown availability from a third-party seller, and the SEB Filtra One FF162100, sold by a third-party seller for nearly twice the price of the Tefal Filtra One. For the rest of your small appliances, our coffee machine selection and our blender guide follow the same method.
Frequently asked questions
What is the best deep fryer with oil?
There is no single best fryer for everyone: it depends on how many people you feed and how you handle the oil. For a family of 4 who fry often, a 4-litre semi-professional model with a cool zone and a filtering sieve, such as the Tefal Filtra Pro, ticks the most boxes in our selection. For 6 or more, aim for a 1.5 to 2 kg load or a twin tank.
Which deep fryer is easiest to clean?
The easiest to clean is a fryer with automatic oil filtering, such as the Oleoclean models: the oil is drained and stored in a box, and the parts go in the dishwasher. Otherwise, choose a removable dishwasher-safe bowl (Moulinex Easy Pro, Princess, Tristar) over a fixed one.
What size of deep fryer for 4 people?
For 4 people, aim for 1 to 1.2 kg of food per batch, which means a fryer holding 2.1 to 3 litres of oil, such as the Simply One or the Moulinex Easy Pro. Trust the food capacity given by the manufacturer rather than the litres: some 4-litre fryers only take 800 g of fries, while others manage 1.2 kg with 2.1 litres.
What power should an electric deep fryer have?
For a 2-litre fryer, 1,500 to 1,900 W is enough; for 3 to 4 litres, aim for 2,000 to 2,400 W, and more than 3,000 W for 5 litres or a twin tank. Power matched to the volume brings the oil back to temperature quickly after you drop in the potatoes, which gives crispier fries.
What does semi-professional deep fryer mean?
A semi-professional deep fryer is a home fryer that borrows from chip-shop equipment: a large 4 to 5-litre tank, an immersed element, stainless steel casing, a thermostat up to 190 °C and a cool zone. It is still a domestic appliance, distinct from the large-tank professional fryers used in restaurants.
What is the cool zone of a deep fryer for?
The cool zone is an area under the element where the oil stays less hot. Crumbs of batter and potato fall into it without burning, which keeps the oil clean for longer and limits smells, according to Princess and Tristar. In our selection, you will find it on the semi-professional models and on some family fryers such as the Moulinex Easy Pro.
