The best gas plancha comes down to three things: the cooking plate (enamelled cast iron, stainless steel or steel), the burner power relative to the plate size, and the warranty the manufacturer gives. A gas plancha gets hotter than an electric one and needs no socket, but it does need a gas bottle, a regulator and a hose, and it belongs outdoors, on a patio or in the garden. For this comparison, I checked 14 product pages from Le Marquier, Brasero, Forge Adour, Krampouz, Somagic, H.Koenig, Eno, Campingaz and Happy Garden on 26 October 2026 and kept 7 planchas, each for a specific profile. Each model's drawback comes before its strengths. To see every bottle-fed model, from tabletop planchas to planchas on a cart, start with our gas plancha griddle page.
This comparison is based on reading product pages, not on hands-on testing: none of these planchas has been used by our team, hence the "Editor's review" badge. I checked 14 gas plancha pages on Amazon on 26 October 2026, from a 120-euro tabletop model to a 549-euro plancha on a cart, then kept the 7 that cover each profile with an active offer.
For each one, I recorded the price, availability and seller, then cross-checked the power, the number of burners, the cooking surface, the plate material and thickness, the number of guests, the weight and the warranty against the manufacturer's own website: Le Marquier, Favex for Brasero, Forge Adour, Krampouz, Somagic and H.Koenig. When the seller's page and the manufacturer disagree, the manufacturer wins; a value that is missing or contradictory is marked "n.c." (not communicated). We do not use customer ratings or rankings from other review sites.
| Criterion | What we looked at | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Plate | Enamelled cast iron, stainless steel or steel, thickness | Heat retention, even heat, cleaning |
| Power | kW or watts published by the brand, number of burners | Heat-up time and searing |
| Surface | Size of the cooking plate | How many guests you can serve at once |
| Format | Tabletop or on a cart, weight | Storage and space on the patio |
| Warranty | Plate, burners, appliance, spare parts | A gas plancha should last for years |
Each model's score out of 5 is an editor's opinion based on these criteria and on price. The full approach is explained on our method page.
Each gas plancha is presented with its profile, its drawback first, then what sets it apart.
Who it's for: a patio for 2 to 6 people who want French enamelled cast iron.
What nobody tells you: its maximum temperature is 250 °C according to the manufacturer, when the H.Koenig PLX1022 claims 350 °C: if you want a fierce sear, it is not the hottest. Neither the brand nor Amazon states the number of guests, and the Amazon page lists almost no specifications: our figures come from the manufacturer's website.
What I liked: the brand from the Landes builds this plancha in France and has it certified Origine France Garantie. Its 50 x 35 cm enamelled cast iron plate and its 2 stainless steel burners carry a lifetime warranty, the rest of the appliance 10 years according to the manufacturer. 3,600 W for 14.4 kg: it sits on a serving trolley, goes into the garage for the winter and comes back out in spring. On the day we checked, it was in stock and sold by the brand, for 249.00 euros on 26 October 2026.
Who it's for: a large table that wants enamelled cast iron without going over 300 euros.
What nobody tells you: only the plate has a lifetime warranty; the appliance itself is covered for 2 years according to Favex. Amazon lists China as the country of origin: it is the plate that is made in France, not necessarily the rest. Favex claims up to 10 guests, the Amazon page 10 to 12: we go with the manufacturer's figure. Only 10 units were left when we checked.
What I liked: three 2.5 kW stainless steel burners, 7.5 kW in total, under a 67 x 34 cm enamelled cast iron plate that is 6 mm thick: the most powerful model in our selection, and the largest cooking surface after the Forge Adour, for less than half its price. Piezo ignition, a side grease drawer, a warming rack and height-adjustable feet to help the fat drain. The plancha is LONGTIME certified, and Favex announces spare parts for 10 years for the burners and the ignition. It weighs 23.8 kg according to the manufacturer and cost 279.00 euros on 26 October 2026, sold by Favex France.
Who it's for: a first enamelled cast iron gas plancha for around 120 euros.
What nobody tells you: neither H.Koenig nor Amazon gives the burner power, the weight or the length of the plate warranty. At this price, there is no way to compare how quickly it heats up against the other models.
What I liked: it is the only plancha under 150 euros among the pages we checked that keeps an enamelled cast iron plate, measuring 47 x 36 cm. Its 2 U-shaped stainless steel burners reach up to 350 °C according to the product page, it runs on butane or propane, and its grease tray slides out for cleaning. It was in stock, sold by H.Koenig, for 119.99 euros on 26 October 2026.
Who it's for: a large table of up to 15 guests.
What nobody tells you: it is the most expensive model in our selection, it weighs 39 kg and needs a sturdy support, and only 2 units were left when we checked. Its Amazon page also presents it as suitable for indoor use: Forge Adour reserves that certification for the 45 and 60 sizes.
What I liked: three burners for 6,000 W under a 74.4 x 42 cm enamelled cast iron plate, the largest we found. The manufacturer offers a warranty of up to 15 years, designs it to be repaired part by part and builds it in the Basque Country. The grease tray holds 1 litre. It cost 649.90 euros on 26 October 2026, sold by Amazon.
Who it's for: a small patio that wants a stainless steel plate.
What nobody tells you: 3,000 W is half the power of the 75 cm models. The Amazon offer showed no seller when we checked, and the weight differs between Krampouz (13.5 kg) and Amazon (15.5 kg).
What I liked: the plate, the frame and the burners are all stainless steel. According to Krampouz, the 54 x 33 cm plate withstands thermal shock and scratches: you can deglaze and scrape with a spatula without worrying. Two zones go up to 300 °C, one for searing meat, a gentler one for vegetables and fish. Made in Brittany, with a 10-year plate warranty, for about 6 guests. It was in stock for 399.00 euros on 26 October 2026.
Who it's for: anyone who wants a ready-to-use plancha on a cart, lid included.
What nobody tells you: the brand does not publish the power of its burners, either on its website or on Amazon, and shipping was announced within 6 to 7 days when we checked.
What I liked: the cart, the lid, the bottle cover and a spice rack come with the plancha, along with 2 removable side shelves of 41 x 30.5 cm. The 60 x 40 cm enamelled cast iron plate serves 6 to 10 guests and carries a lifetime warranty from the manufacturer, which makes it in the Landes. The lid protects the plate between meals, so there is no need to buy a separate cover. The whole set weighs 30 kg and cost 549.00 euros on 26 October 2026, sold by the brand.
Who it's for: enamelled cast iron for 10 guests under 200 euros.
What nobody tells you: it is sold without hose or regulator, its warranty is only 2 years, and its Amazon page shows "4.25 Watts" instead of the 4.25 kW stated by Somagic. Shipping was announced within 2 to 3 days when we checked.
What I liked: 4.25 kW over two independent stainless steel burners, with piezo ignition, under a 51.5 x 36.5 cm enamelled cast iron plate with raised edges. Somagic claims up to 10 guests for just 13 kg. It cost 179.00 euros on 26 October 2026.

Which gas plancha should you choose? Start with the plate, then the surface you need, then the format (tabletop or on a cart): that is the order in which the options narrow down.
Enamelled cast iron holds the heat, stainless steel takes anything, steel heats up fast. Enamelled cast iron has strong heat retention and spreads heat evenly across the surface; it is easy to clean, and two of the brands we kept, including Favex, give it a lifetime warranty. Thickness matters too: 6 mm on the Silvia IIG. Food-grade stainless steel takes a spatula and deglazing without fear of scratches according to Krampouz, but food sticks more until it is properly hot. The enamelled steel plates of the Campingaz and Happy Garden models cost less but hold less heat; rolled steel and hard chrome are mostly found on restaurant-grade models.
| Plate | Strength | Weakness | Models we kept |
|---|---|---|---|
| Enamelled cast iron | Heat retention, even heat | Weight, enamel to look after | Le Marquier, Brasero, Forge Adour, Somagic, H.Koenig |
| Stainless steel | Resists scratches and thermal shock | Sticks when cold | Krampouz Samba |
| Enamelled steel | Price | Holds less heat | None (not kept) |
The bigger the plate, the more power it takes to spread the heat well: our models range from 3,000 W for 54 x 33 cm to 7.5 kW for 67 x 34 cm. Too little power for the size means a longer heat-up and a weaker sear in the middle. The number of burners gives you the number of zones: two burners for a hot zone and a gentle one, three to cook meat, vegetables and fish at the same time.
The cooking surface sets how many people you can serve at once. Here is what the manufacturers of the planchas we kept claim:
| Plate size | Model | Guests claimed |
|---|---|---|
| 54 x 33 cm | Krampouz Samba gas | About 6 |
| 51.5 x 36.5 cm | Somagic Solia 200 | Up to 10 |
| 60 x 40 cm | Original 260 Duo (cart) | 6 to 10 |
| 67 x 34 cm | Brasero Silvia IIG | Up to 10 |
| 74.4 x 42 cm | Forge Adour Modern Gas 75 | 4 to 15 |
These numbers do not compare from one brand to another: Somagic claims 10 guests on a smaller plate than the Silvia IIG's. Go by the surface rather than the number of guests.
The tabletop plancha is the most common: it sits on an outdoor table, a serving trolley or an outdoor kitchen worktop, and goes into storage for the winter. A plancha on a cart adds shelves, a space for the gas bottle and often a lid; it costs more (549.00 euros for the Original 260 Duo on a cart, against 249.00 euros for the tabletop Petite Française, on 26 October 2026) and takes up more room. Check the weight too: from 13 kg for the Solia 200 to 39 kg for the Modern Gas 75.
Most gas planchas run on butane or propane, as long as you fit the right regulator. Propane copes with the cold, while butane vaporises poorly below 0 °C. Check whether the gas hose and regulator are included (they are not with the Solia 200), and whether the product page mentions piezo ignition and a thermocouple safety device, which cuts the gas if the flame goes out. For upkeep, a cover or a lid keeps the plate out of the rain.
Seven of the gas planchas we checked stayed out of the selection, each for a factual reason recorded on 26 October 2026.
The price shown on Amazon when you buy is the one that applies.
For most patios, the best gas plancha is Le Marquier's Petite Française Gas 250: an enamelled cast iron plate and burners with a lifetime warranty, 3,600 W, made in France. For a large table, the Brasero Silvia IIG offers 7.5 kW over 67 x 34 cm for under 300 euros, and the Forge Adour Modern Gas 75 serves up to 15 guests.
Le Marquier, Forge Adour, Krampouz and Eno make their planchas in France and give long warranties on their plates: lifetime at Le Marquier and Eno, up to 15 years at Forge Adour, 10 years for Krampouz's stainless steel plate. Brasero, Favex's brand, gives its cast iron plate a lifetime warranty but the appliance 2 years. Somagic, Campingaz and Happy Garden aim at tighter budgets.
Enamelled cast iron is the best all-round choice for a family gas plancha: it holds the heat and spreads it across the plate. Stainless steel is more resistant to scratches and thermal shock, but food sticks more when it is cold. Enamelled steel costs less and holds the heat less well.
Enamelled cast iron if you mostly cook meat and vegetables for the family and want even heat; stainless steel if you want to scrape, deglaze and clean without worrying. Five of our seven picks have an enamelled cast iron plate, and only one, the Krampouz Samba, has a stainless steel plate.
A plancha on a cart rolls on its wheels, stores the gas bottle in its cabinet and gives you shelves for dishes and utensils. The Original 260 Duo on a cart comes with a lid and a bottle cover. On the other hand, it costs more and takes up more space than a tabletop plancha.
Both work on most models, with the right regulator. Propane works in cold weather, while butane vaporises poorly below 0 °C: for a plancha you also use in winter, propane is the safer choice.
Scrape the plate while it is still warm with a spatula, deglaze with a little water, then empty the grease drawer. Forge Adour recommends pouring water onto the hot plate and scrubbing with a steel wool pad held under the spatula, pushing the residue towards the grease tray. Then cover the plancha with a lid or a cover.
